I Am Not Yours
Sara Teasdale
I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.
You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.
Oh plunge me deep in love, put out
My senses, leave me deaf and blind,
Swept by the tempest of your love,
A taper in a rushing wind.
4. In this poem Sara made it pretty obvious in saying that she is not in love. And will not be in love with this person that is already infatuated with her. I thought this poem was unique because usually love poems are about either you have been hurt by love or you just found magic in love but in this poem, Sara explained how she can not make herself fall in love.
5. "Lost as a candle lit at noon". Sara used this metaphor trying to explain how she wants to be lost in that way. She wants to be lost in love.
